Sandy Rios, the Fox News contributor who argued against Ellen DeGeneres’ status as spokesperson for JC Penney, shared her views in depth on her website. Please note the fearful rhetoric, the marginalizing of homosexuality as sexual deviancy, and the BIG BOLD TEXT that signals to readers just when to be the most frightened about homosexual sex lives.
Oh, and please note that the youngest audience member present at that particular workshop was NOT twelve. The workshop was called “What They Didn’t Tell You About Queer Sex & Sexuality In Health Class: A Workshop For Youth Only, Ages 14-21,” and the youngest attendees were about 15 or 16. Ages when a good many teens today have already viewed pornographic materials on their own (which I am neither condoning nor demonizing. I’m just stating that fact).
When you disagree with someone, although it might be easier to hyperbolize your statements or present untruths as fact in order to stir the blood of your supporters, it’s not actually a healthy or productive way of voicing your disagreement. And in the Internet Age, when it is easy to disprove blatant hyperbolization-posed-as-fact, make sure you fact check before you speak.
Or in this case, type.
