Letter to the editor in the Modesto Bee:
“OBAMA ON A MISSION OF MEA CULPA”
“We know Michelle Obama was listening to the Rev. Wright every Sunday. She was never proud of her country until Barack ran for president. The hate-filled, anti-American rhetoric of Wright was disturbing, along with his 20-year relationship with a potential president. As it turns out, Barack really was listening to those sermons after all, as well as his talks with American terrorist Bill Ayers. He proves it every time on his blame-America-first tour around the world, apologizing for the evil United States to anyone so he can personally receive the love, admiration and popularity he craves from the world.
“Doesn’t he get enough of that from his mind-numb followers? Foreign leaders won’t bother educating Obama on how the United States has helped many of these countries, often with little thanks in return. They love the idea of a U.S. president trashing his own country. They’ll let him read that teleprompter as long as he wants. Obama just won’t accept any criticism of himself. How difficult is it to get approval from these dictators while he’s doing what they want? You can stop now, Mr. President. Some of us still love this country and our American way of life.”

My posted response:
“The problem with sarcasm-tinged, generalized attacks that only paraphrase people’s words & actions is just that: they are general. Pat Bennett, you don’t speak for the American Public - and honestly, I don’t think there’s anyone who truly can. What is embraced in America is Freedom: the freedom to practice the religion of our choice; the freedom for men & women to (hopefully) receive equal standing in life & work; the freedom to be educated, to speak, to think & to write as one chooses - to name a few. We are a diverse people, with diverse philosophies. I hope that someday we will mature into a nation whose differences bring us together rather than tear us apart. There has never been a leader who could answer every side’s clamoring needs. Perhaps we should stop shouting at the leaders and listen to each other.”
